The last day of school was June 4, 2014 and if anyone that knows me, knows, besides Thanksgiving and Christmas, this is my FAVORITE time of year. Summer means vacations, sun, swimming, crafts, movies, late night drive inns, laughing, loving and making some of my favorite things...Memories.
Ethan graduated from Elementary School this year and will be moving to Middle School with Dallin as he completes his last year in Middle School at Sig Rogich. Excitement is buzzing through the halls of Givens Elementary as I enter his class and sit while his teacher, Mrs. Treichel, plays the class video. As she sheds tears of the year ending, I smile ear to ear at the idea of having him home all day long. His graduation included him standing and singing the song "Do I Make you Proud," to which I cried my eyes out. There are proud parent moments and this was one of them. Do I make you proud!?! It was a tear jerker and I was ever so proud to see my son standing and singing the praises of leaving the innocent years of K through five. Well, I grabbed the rest of the munchkins and waited for Dallin to get home so we could get our swim on! We headed to the Mannings house for a swim party and the boys went to the Johnsons and thus ended the 2013-2014 school year.
This, however, just meant it was the end of something good but the beginning of something better!!! The Peterson pack started the first day of summer with a bang! We started the day off early and with a little exercise provided from our DVD friends at T25 studios. It's a 25 minute high intensity workout that I thought would be fun to do all summer. The kids were game and after we got our sweat on, we headed to the breakfast table for water and smoothies thanks to our family "smoothie maker" Ethan. As we sipped the nectar, I introduced the Summer Reading program with a "reading box." It was a tupperware bin including drinks, snacks, treats, a new book, bookmark and timer to keep track of all reading time they would be doing. I didn't know how they would handle it, but, drum roll please...they were THRILLED! Ethan came up with a plan to carry out executing a 10 hour read the first day and a 12 the following. Each minute counted and as they racked up minutes, came the promise of treats and rewards. It was looking up to be a great summer. The boys started putting up the swimming pool we purchased at WalMart and our day included laughing, jumping on the tramp, walking, singing and dancing. It was a great day.
The weekend rounded out being just as good as well. Brad booked a hotel room at the Red Rock Hotel and Casino and it was a night that I will always remember with my lover. Dallin ended up having a migraine and feeling quite sick so we cut our night short and headed home BUT...Saturday was awesome with some cleaning up, organizing, hitting some miniature golf put put party and enjoying the first of many cookouts in the backyard including Hamburgers, Veggies, Chips and S'mores. It was such a great night. The kids indulged in a late swim and we hit the hay late. It's summer after all!
I am so grateful for my kids. I love each one no more than the next but cherish the all for different reasons. Dallin, my soft spoken and tender man. Ethan, my funny and outgoing lad. Ayva, my sweet little angel. Ry, my lover and tender kindhearted boy and Ginger, my sassy yet hard working babe. I hope to make many a memories these next couple months as we enjoy learning from each other, loving one another and doing what our Father sent us here to do. An eternal family is all that I want. Here is to our summer of love.
